Our new site is being gifted to us through the exceptional generosity of Mary Young and Gerry Young, owners of an extraordinary 42.5-hectare property 10 minutes from our current location. This has become their Living Legacy. This site is situated in an important corridor that connects waterways, wetlands, and natural areas in the Otonabee River Watershed.
Suburban housing development is encroaching on the area, intensifying the need to protect biodiversity and provide a natural oasis for educational and recreational purposes. As a conservation organization, we are putting sustainability at the heart of the new building, and ensuring that it conserves and celebrates the site’s natural and agricultural heritage. As well as being a world-renowned hospital, it will act as a showcase to educate on turtle conservation stewardship actions, along with such initiatives as pollinator gardens, and native gardens.
