Bulletin 9 - 2021

Dear Parents, Carers and Members,

Welcome to our 9th bulletin for 2021. 

We hope that the good weather and relaxing of the lockdown rules has been a welcomed opportunity for you to meet face to face with friends and family. 

Our 4 day 'Annual Event' came to a close yesterday and we wanted to say a huge thank-you to all those who made it happen; the speakers with their informative presentations; our team; and to our parent carers that joined us and contributed to the discussion. We plan to publish the workshops and presentations as soon as we are back from our Easter break once they have been edited for GDPR compliance. 

Thank you for those who entered our draw by completing the 'Bounce Back' survey. Despite the draw window expiring we would still encourage parents to complete the survey so we can feed this back to the LA and services. We are looking forward to returning to our monthly sessions at Monty Hind on 24 April 15:00 to 17:00. Numbers are limited to 15 and we will be unable to provide 1:1 support.  

We hope to announce some dates after Easter for Greasley Castle Farm soon and will be able to provide transport from Phoenix Park Tram Stop for families who do not have transport.

Rainbow's Lockdown Offer

We are continuing with this offer  until government guidelines change. 

1. Outreach support for walks/exercise for 1 family/bubble at a time around the city/county parks.

2. Support/play sessions at Beeston Youth and Community Centre (up to 2 hours). These sessions can be on days and times to suit families where practical and subject to risk assessments, a review of the regulations and staff availability. 

3. Our Befriending Social Group is meeting on Zoom - see their programme below.

4. Parent to Parent (P2P) is meeting monthly on Zoom. The next session is Thursday 15 April 11:00 to 12:00. Please note the date has been changed due to the Easter break..

5. Stay and Play Session at Monty Hind. The next session is Saturday 24 April 15:00 to 17:00. Booking Essential.

This project is a series of packages that are delivered to the families' home throughout the course of a week. A sensory show is contained within the parcels that the family unfold & perform themselves. The project is completely free for families. Link

Multi-Sensory Movies

Sensory theatre for adult and young adult audiences with profound and multiple learning disabilities which we tour to theatres and arts centre across the UK. Link

Interactive Zoom Sessions

Sessions are predominantly designed for children who are often described as having Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities and also for children who are identified as being on the autistic spectrum. Our Zoom sessions are also suitable for young people with a wider range of disabilities. Link

Story Explorers Online: Rainforest Rescue

A playful and interactive online storytelling adventure for children aged 2 - 5. Link

Performing Arts Respite Service

FTM Dance is a Performing Arts respite service for children and adults with additional needs, disabilities and medical conditions, aged 3 years old and above. Offers holiday clubs, after school clubs, weekend clubs and adult day services. Link

National Siblings Day

National Siblings Day is on Saturday 10 April and Sibs’ theme day is #ItsaSiblingThing

Free arts sessions for siblings aged 5-11 and 12-17 – limited places available.

Siblings who grow up with a disabled brother or sister often spend a lot of time coming second (or third or fourth…) to the needs of another. Sibs is the only charity representing the needs of the young and adult siblings of disabled people in the UK. You can find out more about Sibs at https://www.sibs.org.uk/

Participants required for Sports Psychology Research

Alyssia is looking into the relationships and important people within disability youth sport from the child and parent/guardian perspective.

Both a child (under 18) and a guardian/parent need to participate in an online interview/phone call and talk about their personal experiences within sport.
