Hi
"What's the point of trying to get in shape?"
"Is this process even worth the effort?"
"Why bother with something that would require constant upkeep and maintenance?"
Have these thoughts ever crossed your mind?
They have mine for sure, when I chose to indulge my more nihilistic side in the past. There's nothing good that came out of it.
If you ponder over it, you'll realise there really is no point or deeper purpose to anything in life at all. We are just a random collection of atoms here for a limited period of time, programmed to ensure survival of the genes we were born with.
But unless we create a purpose for ourselves, we'd forever be stuck trying to rationalise the meaning of it all— making friends, forming relationships, going to work, building the body of your dreams.
A core purpose that I offer you to consider today is Growth.
"The opposite of growth is not stagnation. It is degeneration." Click to tweet
Working on your body lets you upgrade the one vehicle that allows you to navigate reality and interface with the environment around you. It is the very essence of your physical self.
Making deliberate effort to optimise its functioning will unlock capabilities you didn't even know you had before. And it's not just capabilities in the physical sense; but ones traversing across your personal, social and professional life.
Bodily conditioning is the root of all forms of growth. It isn't a coincidence that ancient thinkers & philosophers put such a high emphasis on physical training.
So if you have been feeling a sense of gradual decline in the quality of your life, the cause for that is a lack of focus on a deliberate pursuit of growth.
This can't be resolved by addressing surface-level symptoms with band-aid solutions.
It requires you to take charge and start from the thing that will create the most impact— setting and working towards a long-term body goal.
Until next time.
Cheers!

P.S.: You might have come across 12-week body transformation pictures in the past. The frequency of these is only going to get higher in the upcoming weeks to lure in new-year-resolutioners.
I made a podcast episode on the reality behind such misleading transformations and why they are a massive waste of your time.
