Welcome to this special issue of OpenMinds e-News, produced ahead of Refugee Week, a festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary. In this issue, you will read about the range of activities The Open University is involved with, including our life-changing OU Sanctuary Scholarships, part of the Open Futures Fund, and the Council for At-Risk Academics (Cara) programme.
With relentless conflict in Ukraine displacing over 8 million individuals, the UK's Homes for Ukraine programme is urgently appealing for hosts to open their homes. We are currently working with OU staff who wish to volunteer and, in this issue, we share details of how you, as a member of our OU alumni community, can also become a host.
You're welcome to join us for a series of events next week with inspiring speakers including Catherine Gladwell, CEO of Refugee Education UK and Dr Leonie Ansems de Vries, Director of the King’s Sanctuary Programme, King’s College London.
Finally, we share the link to our Open Sanctuary Hub where you can access a range of free resources on OpenLearn created by experts at the OU in collaboration with many of our valued partners.
Thank you for being part of the OU family.
