LETTER OF ENLIGHTENED CREATION

Dear Friends,

In the softness of the late summer days, we are living a dream come true in our world of Kalpa. All the things we love and wish to share come together in the making of our current exhibition ENLIGHTENED STONE, the true talent of our artist Roberta Busato and the grace of our land. We find a perfect harmony between sophisticated culture, intellectual and artistic research, and our instinctive need to live in a simple soulful way, truly connected with nature.

Join us on this path of enlightened creation.

ALABASTER

SCULPTING ITS INFINITE BEAUTY

Hidden colours, veins and mineral inclusions are intrinsic to the timeless stone of alabaster, a reflection of the identity of Volterra across past and present civilizations. All of this is part of the contemporary artist Roberta Busato’s process of unveiling the core of the material, or precisely what it leads her to reveal to human eyes, culminating in five mystical and preternatural sculpted heads on show in Palazzo dei Priori, entitled ENLIGHTENED STONE.

Great part in the making of this project, alongside the curatorial direction of Kalpa Art Gallery and Eleonora Raspi, played the priceless support of Roberto Bianchi and his family company Romano Bianchi Alabastro founded in 1959 in Volterra.

THE LAND OF VOLTERRA

Magnificent, haughty, eternal, known by the ancient Etruscan name of Velathri, Volterra lies on a hilltop 500 metres above sea level, dominating the three valleys at its feet. While the town’s origins date back to the eighth century BC, today the visitor may still feel the energy of ancient times, connections to ancestors and past rituals. This is the perfect backdrop for a deep insightful creative act, contemplation and reconnection to the inner-self. Roberta Busato has spent a summer art residency at the Bianchi family’s Podere Escaia, a magical place of bucolic dwellings and gardens, immersed in the wild nature surrounding Volterra.
