Help Waltham Abbey Community Campaigns during our week of action against the proposed Next.plc distribution centre.

Waltham Abbey Community Campaigns

Hi ,

Thanks for signing our petition to stop the Next distribution centre in Waltham Abbey.

We've got well over 1,000 signatures with 760 online and nearly 300 on paper. Given that a lot of people still don't know about the proposed development that shows clear local opposition to the plans - just a handful of the people we've spoken to support them.

The lack of local awareness is still a big issue, one which we are going to tackle next week.

Week of action to say NO to Next - Monday 16th to Saturday 21st

Our small team has been doing great work on street stalls, going door-to-door, getting out with our new banner and spending more time spreading the word on social media than is probably healthy.

However, we still need to reach a lot more people before the objection deadline on Friday 27th July so, as a last big push, we've organised a Say NO to Next week of action.

That's where you come in!

There are several ways that you can help:

  • Put a poster in your window
  • Deliver leaflets
  • Join us with the banner for half an hour in the morning or evening
  • Help out on stalls across Waltham Abbey for our Action Saturday on the 21st

We think we've done really to get to this stage with a small team of volunteers but if we're going to stop Next we're going to need all hands to the pumps next week.

If you can join us for any of our activities please let us know by filling in this quick form:

I can help - week of action form

We also plan to hold a rally in Waltham Abbey Market Square at 2pm on Saturday afternoon (21st) - we'll let you know next week if it's going ahead

Behind the scenes

Along with the visible campaigning work - website, leaflets, social media, street stalls etc - our team has been busy looking at ways to challenge the application through legislation and case studies. This is taking a lot of time but we're finding more and more holes in Next's application.

In our latest campaign video Liam Burke, owner of Vintner and Mason on Sun Street, said a few words about our town's heritage.
