Purdue Crew had another very successful fall racing season, with a special trip to Boston to boot. Since the last update, we raced at the Head of the Rock Regatta in Rockford, Illinois, where the team fared quite well against many of our regional rivals, and the novices had a good showing at their first regatta. Then, it was back to the Wabash to continue to work towards the Head of the Charles and Bald Eagle. 

But before either race, the team took part in our annual Feast of the Hunters Moon setup/takedown fundraiser. (something which many of you certainly have fond memories of) Part of what makes this so special and worthwhile is the team bonding that takes place when you’re working all day with your teammates, often with different squads than you would usually practice with.

After the Head of the Charles it was a final, strong push towards Bald Eagle Collegiate Invitational, where we always face stiff competition from top teams like Michigan, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Dayton, Grand Valley, and others- many of whom we will be fighting for places on the medal stand at ACRAs later this coming spring. Once again, we rose to the challenge, taking the both the women's points trophy and men's points trophy (over Michigan no less!) for the first time since first hosting the regatta ten years ago. And the race produced another OUTSTANDING performance from the Novice rowers, with the novice men and women almost winning every event, and the men's novice 8+ sweeping Wisconsin's fully funded novice men's 8's for a second year in a row. A truly great performance for all squads to look back to and build upon as we now transition our training indoors through March.

Another special event that I, as a member of the officer's board, got to experience was Alumni Weekend. I was fortunate enough to listen to alumni accept Hall of Fame awards and talk about their time on the team. This was really special for me, as listening to how they talk about the sport of rowing was very inspiring. I also got to learn more about the team's history, and witness the dedication of 3 rowing shells- Dr Katie Sermersheim, Mike Warren, and John Fee '72.

Our social media accounts will continue to be active throughout the winter months, so make sure to tune in there to see what the Boilermakers are up to throughout the winter! I am excited to see the team get faster together. Boiler Up, Hammer Down, and Hail Purdue!

This past month we hosted our now annual Purdue Crew Alumni reunion, with a special focus on celebrating the classes from the 80s. It was one of our largest gatherings on campus, yet, with a full weekend of fun programming including an alumni row, the annual Purdue Rowing Association meeting, boat dedications, current student exec board coffee and donuts with alumni, and more! Many congratulations to this year's well deserving class of Purdue Crew Hall of Fame Awardees, which included Larry Long 1964, Hayden Cotterill 1970, Mike Chalmers 1981, Larry Gough 1982, Dan Egenolf 1984, Kevin Kiser 1985, Patricia Witczak Breed 1985, Paul Johnson 1986, Jay Woodard 1986, and Pete Grimmer 1987.
