A strange sense of the inevitable came to him. Hair bristled on his arms. Passersby turned curious faces towards him. The woods held oddly silent. Then he looked from the clearing and saw lightning strike the white cliff. The bolt proved everything he'd felt. Even the thunder couldn't help agreeing.
