Although a large investment for a community, a spec building can oftentimes make your community stand out to a potential business looking to launch or relocate.
Many communities throughout the state have chosen to put forth the investment in hopes of being selected by a business.
Huron is one such community having success. The Greater Huron Development Corporation currently has its ninth spec building for sale. The building was constructed and paid for by the development corporation and allows potential buyers to see what could be, instead of seeing only an empty lot.
The Governor's Office of Economic Development's (GOED) Certified Site program is another way to promote long-term growth, positioning a community to be poised for economic development. A community with a certified site stands out to a business looking to expand or put down roots in South Dakota.
Huron has also had success with this program. They recently were awarded certification at Vantage Park. The industrial park earned the recognition of Certified Site in the category of heavy industrial on its 127-acre shovel-ready sites.
