HHS: September TCH Newsletter (8/21) – HHS’s Think Cultural Health (TCH) published its September newsletter, which highlights affirming care for LGBTQ+ patients, culturally and linguistically appropriate services (CLAS) for Latino patients, and the TCH Promotores de Salud e-learning program.
CDC: One in 5 Women Reported Mistreatment While Receiving Maternity Care (8/22) – The CDC released a report about pregnancy-related deaths, finding that mistreatment during maternity care was higher among Black (30%), Hispanic (29%), and multiracial (27%) women.
White House: WHIAANHPI Launches Effort to Demystify Federal Grants Process and Bolster Technical Assistance Outreach to Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Communities (8/24) – As announced in an HHS press release, the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (WHIAANHPI) launched “Demystifying Federal Grants,” a new webinar series aimed at sharing insights and tips to help community-based organizations access federal grants and resources.
SAMHSA: Advisory Committee for Women's Services (ACWS); Solicitation of Nominations for Additional Non-Voting Representatives on the Maternal Mental Health Task Force (8/24) – The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is soliciting applications from qualified individuals or organizations to be considered for non-voting representative positions on the Maternal Mental Health Task Force subcommittee of the Advisory Committee for Women's Services. The nomination period is open until September 22, 2023.
AHRQ: Use of Open-Ended Responses to Explore Disparities in Patient Experience (9/1) – The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) issued a notice requesting that the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approve the proposed information collection project “Use of Open-Ended Responses to Explore Disparities in Patient Experience.” Comments are due October 5.
CORRECTION: The last edition of Social Determinants Updates included a CMS video regarding SDOH proxy responses. To clarify, the video is only applicable to specific, mandated screeners that must be administered in certain settings, such as home health agencies, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, and long-term care hospitals. The video does not apply to SDOH screening in other settings.
