Seed packing...tube washing...grower training...seed packing...tube washing...grower training...REPEAT!

In fact, repeat that multiple times and that is what October has looked like for TreeProject! Oh, and if you add in the fabulous guided walk around Maranoa Gardens followed by the social thank you catchup, our over-the-airwaves, online/face-to-face presentations and germination workshops too, we would say that October has been one hugely productive month! Thanks Team.

Firstly we would like to acknowledge all our grower trainers with special thanks. In particular, Annie Robinson, who has singlehandedly run grower training for 80 people this season (round of applause please) :) - thanks so much Annie. The Depot Working Bee team are also outdoing themselves... last week a working bee forestry tube-washing record was broken - 11,760 forestry tubes washed in a day - you are incredible. Great work all round! Thanks as well to Pete Goldsmith for managing the nursery whilst Louise was on a well-deserved work break.

2014 -->2019 - just look at the difference... and that's why we are putting a call out for more growers like Campbell!

Imagine if we could clone our incredible growers :) how good would that be? Well, the next best thing we can do is showcase growers like Campbell Gome - a long-time TreeProject grower and planter and a true inspiration for bringing science class to life for the kids through TreeProject.

Someone who never thought of himself as a knowledgeable or talented gardener knows that with TreeProject coordinators' training, anyone with a little space can give growing a go too!

A GREAT AFTERNOON & GUIDED WALK IN THE GARDENS

As a thank you, a large group of TreeProject members and volunteers attended a tour of the Maranoa Gardens in Boroondara. The incredibly knowledgable guide, Andrea, took two groups through the native gardens where they have over 200 species of Eucalypts and 400 Wattles. A thoroughly interesting and enjoyable afternoon followed by a social catch-up at a local Pizza Cafe.

Hitting the Airwaves, Art Centre & Council

That's right - we hit the airwaves... not once but twice this month! Dr Greg Moore presents a tree segment on ABC774 each Monday at 2:15pm and John McRae was able to promote TreeProject on consecutive Mondays. John requested new growers to cover off the Autumn 2023 distribution and the grower applications flowed in after each show.

Thanks to John McRae and David Smith for spreading the TreeProject message at a recent online event run by Whitehorse Council. The council run a program for Trees and Urban Forest Education and this attracts over 25 participants each month.

Thanks as well to Peter Hooke for his creativity in running two germination workshops at the Shepparton Art Centre over the school holidays.

MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK

And YES we need many more hands to spread the load around!

In particular - we are looking for more help with our annual Kit Preparation day at our Kensington Stockyards depot on Saturday, 12th November at 10am.

MATHS ON A BACK OF A NAPKIN BEATS NO MATHS AT ALL, RIGHT?

Sam & his family recently ventured across Australia. They did 45,000km over 12 months, which we figure is between 20-30 tons of co2. This would require at least 50-100 trees to offset fully.

On a recent planting day they attended, 2,000 trees were planted by 30 volunteers - so almost 70 trees each.

So if you follow our 'back of the napkin maths' :) - it took 1 tree planting day including the whole family to offset the trip. In addition, they are aiming for 1 per year for the family to stay carbon neutral each year after this.

LOVE THE ENVIRONMENT? HERE'S THE PERFECT GIFT!

Peter Cook has been a grower and planter with TreeProject over the years and created a travel quiz and board game called Onyawallaby.

Created during lockdown, the game is best played whilst you are out in the bush/camping or just in nature and is designed for anyone who has a love of our environment.

Its aim is to raise awareness of the work environmental organisations do.

Recommended retail price $65 – community price $55 TreeProject members (postage added) with $5 from each sale being donated to TreeProject.
