DrJoyCoaching Newsletter, vol. 11
I've been thinking a lot lately about how we women physicians compartmentalize our lives. We go from home to work, and back again, and can usually shift mindsets and attitudes in different settings. But, how well can you really separate these from each other? Don't they bleed together?
If you are unhappy in your job, can you really come home and be joyful and cheerful? You can try, but how long does it work? And are you really fooling anyone? Or are you trying to fool yourself?
If you are unhappy with your life outside of work, it may be a little easier to escape to the job. You can put your nose to the grindstone, like you know how to do, and just work. But we all know that if you're stressed out by your kids, your spouse, your parents, that we bring that stress with us to work.
And eventually, the battery is drained... in all areas.
The good news is that if you start to recharge your battery in one area of your life, it will often cross over into the other areas. And in the process of recharging, you will develop the ability to better assess the areas that need improvement with a clearer mind.
I have put together a fun exercise for you to evaluate your level of happiness in 4 areas of your life-
You'll want to have a pen and paper available and a quite space and time to work on this.
We've all heard the phrase,
So let's figure out how to fill up your cup!
Be well, and don't forget to breathe...
