Washington to Recognize Juneteenth as a State Holiday
Starting in 2022, Juneteenth will be a legal holiday in Washington State. The legislature passed this measure on a bipartisan vote, commemorating the day in 1865 the last enslaved African Americans learned they were free in Galveston, TX, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.
Elia joins us as our new Eastern Washington Certification Analyst, coming from the Department of Labor & Industries where she served as a Field Auditor for 4 years conducting workers’ compensation compliance audits. Elia chose OMWBE because the mission and values of our agency align with her goals and beliefs. Elia was raised in Mexico until the age of 10 when her family migrated to the US and settled in a small agricultural town in Eastern Washington near the Columbia River. Outside of work she enjoy walks to the park with her three kids, cooking, and family game nights.
58 businesses obtained OMWBE certification in April! We share these monthly lists of newly certified firms with our contract and procurement contacts at State Agencies and Institutions of Higher Education.
