Hello Friends!

Happy Friday- and, "Welcome back to "The Cre8tive Life!"- your weekly newsletter full of lifestyle tips, smiles, and cool things to check out!

This week has been pretty low-key. I have been mostly in the throws of spring cleaning, reflection, and researching new potential client projects. ( *If you happen to have any leads of people needing an event planner/community manager, let me know!)

I did manage to squeeze in two "artsy fartsy" things though. I went to a live paint and dance night night, where the theme was Stevie Wonder (my absolute favorite musician in the whole world), and Janet Jackson. Then, I was also invited to attend a fun experiential event sponsored by Renaissance Hotels in Harlem. The evening included a neighborhood walking tour full of surprises, and a performance by Judith Hill. Definitely some fun times that got my "cre8tive" juices flowing!

*I have shared a few pictures here, but will also be posting more on my Instagram @thecre8tiveartisan

My weekly (random) compilation of some of my favorite "cre8tive" things that I want to share:

  • FAVORITE WORD: Concinnity — elegance or neatness of literary or artistic style

  • ADVICE:  "Hold the vision. Trust the process"

  • MOOD MUSIC: Hiatus Kaiyote is a Australian soul group that I love to listen to. Nai Palm, who is their lead vocalist, has a great solo song that I randomly recently discovered while perusing a store- check out "Crossfire" for a nice chill vibe.

  • SMILE OF THE WEEK: "We Carry Kevan" is a beautiful story of true friendship that really exemplifies the value of embracing diversity and inclusion.

  • WILDCARD: Because my NYC life tends to be filled with commuting, I like to find ways to be productive "on the tracks." One of my favorite things to bide my time is to listen to podcasts-particularly those of a storytelling/ learn more about people nature. I have quite a few that fit this category, but today I will highlight "Hidden Brain"- which is where Shankar Vedantam uses science and storytelling to reveal the unconscious patterns that drive human behavior, shape our choices and direct our relationships. Check it out, if you're not familiar with it, and let know what you think!

  • RANDOM LIFE TIP: I tend to be "Team Carry On" when I travel, and like to avoid checking a bag if I can. One of my biggest travel hacks to do this is using packing cubes. THIS is a good video to help you get started in the world of packing efficiently, if you're looking to "lighten your load."

  • FOOD TO TRY: This week at the Renaissance Hotels event in Harlem, they had catering from one of my favorite soul food restaurants, Melbas. I decided to "step out of my box" and try something I have never tried on their menu, Melba's Spring Rolls- which consist of: Rice, Black Eyed Peas, Collard Greens and Cheddar Cheese in a Spring Roll Wrapper. These was super tasty (and something I would have normally thought I wouldn't like at all). So, if you happen to find yourself in Harlem, I highly encourage you to try these (and their Trés Mac & Cheese)!

As I have been in my deep Spring cleaning mode (both physically and mentally), I have also been ruminating on one of my favorite pieces from Alex Elle. I think a lot of it is also resonating with me because I am preparing to embark on a new decade of life (and I tend to get very reflectional around the time of my birthday). I don't particularly have much more to say beyond the above today...but, I did feel compelled to share this. Hopefully it will speak to/resonate with someone else as well...and, allow you to give yourself all the permissions.

This week I challenge you to think about those areas in your life where you need to relinquish control, and think of actionable steps to do that.

I am in the process of creating some "non-traditional" events where people can connect on a deeper level in person. And, I am still in need of a bit more feedback in my survey. If you have not done so already, please take a quick 5 minutes to fill out:

Thanks sooooooo much in advance for your time!

***Totally disregard this part of the newsletter if you have already done this.

Lastly, if you happen to have any future topic ideas, or come across any events I should know about, PLEASE feel free to send those along my way. I always LOVE discovering and learning about new things!

Have a great day, and be sure to take time to enjoy your life!

*"The Cre8tive Life" is the weekly "feel good" component of my consultancy, The Cre8tive Artisan, which is where I "make the magic happen" and curate engaging lifestyle events that help connect us humans in deeper ways. Feel free to CHECK OUT MY WEBSITE to see what I do, and let me know if there is ever anything I can do to help you out! As always, if this newsletter is "not your thing", please feel free to unsubscribe (however, I really hope you don't).
