TALK - THE ECONOMIC LANDSCAPE IN POST-COVID ASIA, Penang Institute, 10-12 Jalan Brown, Thursday 8th April 7.30pm

The post-pandemic landscape will be profoundly different from the pre-pandemic situation. Geopolitical tensions, supply chain decoupling and technology disruptions adds uncertainty to predictions, risks and business models. East Asia will be affected by the broader issues of US-China tensions, technology, climate change and post-pandemic reforms. Southeast Asia will be shaped by major decisions made outside their control, and Malaysia will also have to adjust due to rising competition from growing power of Indonesia, Vietnam and Philippines, as well as Bangladesh.

Vagabond (French: Sans toit ni loi, "with neither shelter nor law") is a 1985 French drama film directed by Agnès Varda, featuring Sandrine Bonnaire. It tells the story of a young woman, a vagabond, who wanders through the Languedoc-Roussillon wine country one winter.

 Penang at a Glance photobook is a collection of photographs captured from the lenses of four local photographers coming from four different backgrounds. The book showcases Penang’s breathtaking landscapes, festivals, celebrations, arts, culture, heritage, people and lifestyles.

DANCE - MENGIMBAU, Tropical Spice Garden, Teluk Bahang, Sunday 11th April, 10am and 6pm

Aida Redza of Studio Pentas gathers together women on this journey through the gardens. Starting at the Water Garden, this work in progress draws the audience into the Heart of the Garden, before the finale at the Pavilion. The piece is an inspirational trip into the inner workings of women reconnecting with the natural world.

The performance features live musicians and will bring the audience on a physical journey from Water Garden → Heart of the Garden → Pavilion → opposite Beach.

COOKING WORKSHOP - LIVE FROM TROPICAL SPICE GARDENS, Online, Sunday 11th April 11am

Chef Jess is back in the Garden’s jungle kitchen. In this interactive, virtual class, you’ll learn how to make Braised Chicken with Potato aka Chicken Pongteh & Egg Belanda: staples of the much-loved Nyonya cuisine. The recipe will be sent early so you can prepare to cook along if desired.
