When
I observed what I pay attention to when producing
videos, I started to see design elements that also connect to how I
would design my life. Here’s a short list of some of the elements I’d
include:
Transitions:
just like a good video has transitions that are in harmony with the
video (whether smooth or choppy), my life design approach includes
transitions that are meaningful and intentional. The transitions could
be throughout the day, like coming home from work, preparing a meal and
getting ready for bed or bigger ones to do with relationships, work, and
stages of life.
Rhythm: just
as the overall rhythm of the video, such as fast or slow, shapes the
viewers experience, the rhythm of my life shapes my experience. Have I
planned nourishing mini-breaks through the day? Am I connecting with
friends regularly? Is play and adventure making it to my activity list?
Tone: the tone
of a video creates an emotional atmosphere for the viewer. I tend
towards videos that are considerate, uplifting, and humourous. Likewise,
my ideal life design is about the Great Uplift towards a higher
possibility for the world in and around me. My life design includes a
tone that puts a smile on my face.
Authenticity: Moments
of humour, honesty and ease help us connect human to human. So too, my
life’s design needs to feel authentic to me. Am I including the elements
I truly enjoy, things that nourish me and help me become who I’m meant
to become?
