INTERNATIONAL flight passengers no longer have to pay PHP850 terminal fee at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) as this is now included in the airfare.

The integration of the international passenger service charge (IPSC) or the terminal fee is seen to enhance passenger convenience. The changes have already taken effect last June 1, 2019. The terminal fee for Terminal 2, however, which caters to international passengers will remain at PHP 850.

There will be a three-month transition period that will end on August 31. By September, all airlines must already integrate the terminal fee into the system. For passengers who will buy their tickets online after the transition period, the terminal fee will be reflected in the airfare.

Cebu is located in the central part of the Visayas, the group of islands in the core of the Philippines. Just like the rest of the tropical islands in the country, Cebu has dry and rainy seasons. The onset of the rainy season was declared by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on the second week of June.

From June to October, the days are partly rainy and cloudy and often considered the typhoon months in the Philippines. What seems to be the advantage of Cebu from other islands is its geography. This island paradise is often spared from the brunt of typhoons with normal speed.

“I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.” - a thought by Confucious governing most educators of modern times; a principle that made it imperative for us not to limit learning within the four walls of the classroom.

With that knowledge and considering the fact that young learners have so much energy in them, these Spartan minors went racing. Wait, this is not the plain race you are thinking of. In this ‘Amazing Race’, the primary goal is to communicate in English.

The race consisted of 5 legs. The first leg was to correctly relay the words given to the last person of the team. The second was to get their minds thinking on how to pass a tiny circular object to their teammates. The third one was to complete the picture puzzles provided. The fourth and fifth was to ignite creativity by designing a gown using manila papers and tapes.

The activity was excitingly tiring, but it was all worth it having both the mind and the body work to learn and practice English.

Summer is almost over, but this is not a reason for our Student Advisers not to enjoy the remaining days of it. Being in charge of dealing with students' concerns in terms of the academic aspect, they surely need some time to have fun and relax before the holiday is over. And speaking of the holiday, just this June 12, 2019, our SAs were able to unwind and enjoy each other’s company.

The goal of the bonding is not only to have fun, but also to share the experience that they have in catering students’ concern and ways on how they can better assist them with their studies. It was indeed a fun-filled experience for them and they are grateful for the support that they are receiving.

As part of the preparation for the Speaking Master course, an insightful session by Hopkins was successfully conducted at SMEAG Capital Campus on June 8, 2019. Regarded as "Training for the Trainers", the TOEIC Propell workshop aimed to give teachers better understanding about TOEIC particularly the Speaking skill. During the event, Ms. Angela Concepcion, the Development and Training Manager of Hopkins International served as the speaker where she provided plenty of ideas in terms of ways on how to put TOEIC speaking into teaching.

The session concluded with the faculty members full of information and insights on their mind.

A strenuous basketball competition was held on Sunday, June 09, 2019, between the Intensive IELTS and Junior Camp students.  The Intensive IELTS students bagged the gold as they played hard and smart in the female division while with a full court press and hoop tactics the Junior Camp students dominated in the male category.
