What a difference a week makes!

Hey guys!

You know that tiny little room at the beach house I mentioned in last week's email? The one at the top of the stairs that I proved to John was the perfect nook for a guest's pack-n-play? Well, I mentioned we had a plan brewing to utilize the rest of the space and we've already made some pretty great progress!

In fact, I'm actually typing this from our brand new desk space at the beach house (*insert at least five party horn emojis here*)

It's not totally finished (note the raw, unstained wood - which we will make a richer and darker color like the pine floors). But yesterday we constructed this desk-plus-shelf situation on the inside wall of that tiny storage room.

The desk means we can stop using the dining table as our workspace (which is always annoying come meal time) and the shelving lets us use the room to store a lot more stuff - like extra linens, spray paint and stain, all of the paper manuals for the appliances and mechanical things in the house, and even some items that we need to store for the duplex while that's in progress. Best of all - there's STILL space for the pack-n-play behind it all whenever it's needed!

We'll be sure to share the whole thing in a blog post once it's done, but the desk is just some 18" wide pine hung on these basic brackets, while the shelves are supported by these more decorative iron brackets (the same ones we used in our laundry room makeover downstairs.

Basically, if you thought I was excited last week to finally find use this space for something functional... imagine me now! BWAHAHAHAHA!

In other news, here's what you may have missed last week:

Speaking of using small spaces, last week John blogged about customizing an Ikea Malm dresser to look like a built-in dresser in the beach house master bedroom. It's SO EASY!

We're helping a podcast listener pick the perfect laundry location in this week's episode. Tune in and then take the poll! Also, hear about the stressful money-saving decision we made at the duplex.

PBKids extended their 20% off sale (code FRIENDS) which is great for back-to-school. I always eye their backpacks & lunch bags, and a certain shine-loving 8 year old loves these most of all.

Did you know adding landscape lighting is something you can totally do yourself? We did it nearly 3 years ago and its been one of our favorite exterior upgrades ever. Only took a few hours!

Hope you have an awesome week!
