WorkSafeNB is reviewing Policy 21-112 Occupational Hearing Loss to improve clarity, ensure consistency with current practices, and reflect feedback from staff. The proposed changes provide more guidance on traumatic hearing loss, out-of-province exposure and tinnitus.

WorkSafeNB has implemented administrative penalties as a faster, more efficient way to address workplace health and safety violations. Introduced under the Occupational Health and Safety Act on September 1, 2020, these monetary fines allow officers to immediately penalize employers, workers and others for contraventions of health and safety laws. These penalties support safer workplaces by promoting accountability and deterrence.

Recently, Oxford Frozen Foods Ltd received an alternate sentencing and was fined $5,000, to be used to purchase guards for the school shops in the District scolaire francophone Nord-est.
