Rolex Perpetual 1908
Heir to the brand’s aesthetic heritage as much as to its numerous innovations in watchmaking, the watch perpetuates the brand’s pursuit of excellence. This fine example of Rolex’s watchmaking prowess, with Superlative Chronometer certification, brings classicism to the future.
The 1908 is by no means a nostalgic timepiece. While the slenderness of its 18 ct gold or 950 platinum case borrows from the standards of the early years of Rolex, the performance of its calibre 7140 meets the stringent norms of the Superlative Chronometer certification.
The work carried out on the design of the 1908 reveals Rolex’s mastery of craftsmanship. Encompassed by its domed and fluted bezel, the sleek dial draws inspiration from the original Oyster Perpetual watches of 1931. Every detail, from the hands to the hour markers, is adjusted to a hundredth of a millimetre. Like a living landscape, the transparent case back reveals the delicate finishes of calibre 7140, including the Rolex Côtes de Genève decoration and the openwork oscillating weight in gold.

Cinema du Look
Cinema du Look is a new biannual journal subtitled ‘A Magazine About Stylish Cinema’ which makes it sound a little shallow and like it may not interest people with a more academic take on the function of film, but it didn’t stop me enjoying this second issue. Cinema du Look aims to be a bridge between the worlds of film and style, exploring the parallels and differences of these two industries. It weaves together interviews and prose from art directors, film directors, costume designers, writers, photographers, even parfumiers and many other creatives who collectively shape our cultural landscape through cinema.

Theatre Reviews
‘Do I Love You?’ at Theatre Royal Bath
"Hull, circa 2023: the end of lockdown. Covid had changed the world, but little about life ‘up north’ had altered since the virus took a stranglehold. Barren high streets, padlocked pubs and high unemployment; limited opportunities, limited resources – grim limitation everywhere. But 20-something trio Sally, Natalie and Kyle have a liferaft to cling on to throughout it all: a friendship that unexpectedly leads to the discovery of how the music and lifestyle from a time gone can offer them escape from circumstantial restraints."

Opening Night of If Opera's Rigoletto, 7 August

Verdi's great masterpiece is a chilling, dark-hearted tragedy whose central father/daughter pairing brings us to the depths of despair as a result of obsessive love, betrayal and murder. Prepare for a unique and intense operatic experience. The score, one of Verdi’s best-loved and most melodious, is by turns insouciant (La donna è mobile), or tragically profound, but always of great dramatic richness, variety, and beauty, climaxing with the great Act III quartet.
Rigoletto is the magnificent centrepiece of the If Opera 2025 season, and there's some last minute availability for their opening show.
