|
This week (on Tuesday 17 February) The Queen paid a visit to our beautiful city and undertook a series of engagements showcasing Bath's vibrant arts and culture scene.
We've got the rundown of where she went...
The Schroder Gallery, The Holburne Museum | Great Pulteney Street, Bathwick
First up, The Queen visited the recently completed Schroder Gallery at the Holburne Museum and viewed their new exhibitions featuring the colourful textiles of fashion designer Dame Zandra Rhodes and photographs taken by Sir Don McCullin. Her Majesty also viewed artworks created by the local community group Pathways to Wellbeing.
Dr Chris Stephens, Director of the Museum said it was a "true honour" to welcome Her Majesty the Queen back to the Holburne.
Theatre Royal Bath | Sawclose
Next up on her royal day out , The Queen, who has been a Patron of Theatre Royal Bath since 2008, watched part of the technical rehearsal for the community production of David Copperfield and met some of the 100 participants from the region who are involved in the production.
Her Majesty also visited the space within the theatre that will be transformed into a new community studio theatre, Venue 4, to give local people access to performing arts at low and no cost.
David Copperfield: A Life Director, Sally Cookson said: “It was a thrill to welcome The Queen into our technical rehearsal today, it gave us all a buzz and the cat members were ‘all a quiver!’
Persephone Books | 8 Edgar Buildings
Her Majesty's final visit of the day was to Persephone Books, an independent publisher and bookshop founded in 1999.
The company specialises in reprinting neglected fiction and non‑fiction, primarily by women writers, with most titles originating from the mid‑twentieth century, and regularly hosts book groups, film screening and free literary events.
Fran and Nicola of Persephone Books shared on Instagram that The Queen left their shop with three of their titles: CROOKED CROSS, THEY WERE SISTERS and MARIANA.

JTM
JTM is a new French cultural magazine providing an annual survey of unique achievement in architecture, scenography and design – elements which it fashions around a slightly strange theme for each issue. The magazine's second release is called Disco–Inferno which blends retro nostalgia and hedonism with cutting-edge innovation to celebrate ‘creators proudly rooted in their emotions and sensibilities’ who transcend the everyday to capture that untamed brilliance of the past, ‘a space where forms, ideas, and emotions meet… a concept our parents or grandparents once lived: that of intense freedom and clear liberation.’ Quite an assumption in that last sentence but I get where they’re going and, if you’re looking for something different, this one offers an informative, entertaining, super-glossy and enjoyably careering tour through contemporary design matters.

Rugby legend Jonny Wilkinson delivers masterclass at King Edward’s School in partnership with the Global Rugby Players Foundation
|
|
|
|
|
16 Year 8 pupils and 14 kickers from across the Senior School at King Edward’s School, Bath (KES) were treated to a once‑in‑a‑lifetime coaching masterclass on Friday 13 February as England great Jonny Wilkinson led a session on passing accuracy under pressure before a dedicated place-kicking clinic on the technical and mental craft of kicking at goal.
The visit was made possible by the Global Rugby Players Foundation (GRPF), of which Jonny is a founding member. Throughout the morning, Wilkinson challenged pupils to elevate their mindset around training habits, decision-making and, ultimately, their execution in both training and match scenarios.
Jonny then shared the elite technical habits and mindset that underpinned his own kicking career. The former British and Irish Lions player was incredibly generous of his expertise and insights.
