Spiritual Success Is An Inside Job

In Matthew 6 Jesus tells us how to live a life pleasing to Him. He teaches us to focus on what is in our hearts rather than what is on the outside. In other words, we need to focus on pleasing God rather than trying to impress people. Character begins on the inside and is revealed on the outside.

Secret Practices That Produce A Righteous Life

These are a few ways Jesus teaches us how to live a life pleasing to Him.

• Give in secret – The way you give to others is an indicator of the state of your heart. If you are doing good to please or impress others, then that is not pleasing to God. 
• Pray in Secret – Matthew 6:5-6 says whenever you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites because they love to be seen praying by others. Instead, we need to pray in private and God will reward us. 
• Fast in Secret – Fasting is simply giving up something so our prayers are more focused. The most common way is fasting from a meal. Jesus teaches us to fast in secret and not be like the hypocrites.
