Engineering Research Reactivation SharePoint

The Engineering Research Reactivation all-inclusive SharePoint page has helpful reopening resources, important processes, and documents that need to be completed and approved to "return to research". Please request access if prompted.

Important Announcement:

Where is my "LABORATORY PLAN FOR A SAFE RETURN" in the approval process?

You can see what step of the approval process your plan is on by looking under the “Engineering Research Reactivation” folders on the SharePoint site.

  • If the plan has been approved by the Department Chair, you can see if it has been sent to VPRI by clicking on “EGR ADR Review” > “At VPRI for Review”. If the plan is in the “At VPRI for Review” folder then it is currently being reviewed by VPRI.
  • To check to see if your plan has been completely approved by all required departments (DC, EGR Dean's Office, and VPRI), you can click on the “VPRI Final Approved Plans” folder. If your plan is in the “VPRI Final Approved Plans” folder then you approved to return to research. Monique Blackmer (monique@msu.edu) will reach out to you.

DER Tools to Support Faculty

While many faculty are still working remotely, DER is here with various tools to support them. DER uses video conferencing and screen sharing during the budget development process to help work with faculty as if they were still in the office and visiting physically. Contact anyone in DER to learn more.

DER is Here to Help

To new faculty, DER is here to help and would be glad to provide one on one instruction as you acclimate to MSU systems. You can reach out to Robert Nelsen (DER Research Admin) rnelsen@msu.edu or phone 517-355-5103 to set that up. DER has recorded an instructional video online that is available for new faculty. The video discusses various research related resources in the College of Engineering. The video also describes services available through DER. Please find that video here.

The Office of Naval Research (ONR) Summer Faculty Research Program

The ONR Summer Faculty Research Program is accepting applications for 2021. ONR sponsors the Summer Faculty Research Program for U.S. citizens who hold teaching or research appointments at U.S. colleges and universities. This program provides an opportunity for faculty members to participate in research of mutual interest to the faculty member and professional peers at U.S. Navy Laboratories.

The Summer Faculty Research Program awards qualified faculty from Majority and Minority Serving Institutions (MI’s) - (HBCU’s, TCU’s, HSI’s) - the opportunity to conduct research for 10-weeks at one of 20 participating ONR facilities. A travel and housing allowance and competitive stipend are provided for awardees. All work must be completed on site at the sponsoring U.S. Navy Laboratory.

The application deadline is December 14, 2020 for the 2021 award year. For more information visit http://onroutreach-summer-faculty-research-sabbatical.com.

EERE Program Information Center Hosts Live Demo on September 24

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (EERE) is launching a new website that will replace eXCHANGE for funding opportunity announcements and application submissions. Beginning November 2, 2020, organizations interested in responding to EERE Fiscal Year 2021 opportunities will use the EERE Program Information Center to view open opportunities and submit applications.

To help prepare applicants for the transition from eXCHANGE to the EERE Program Information Center, the Energy Department is hosting a live demo to preview the new submissions and registration process on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. ET. Anyone involved or interested in responding to EERE opportunities is encouraged to participate. The demo is a great opportunity to see the new submissions and registration processes firsthand and ask any questions about the new system. Learn more HERE.
