“You’ve got enemies? Good, that means you actually stood up for something.”
Eminem
Reflection
For many, many years - and to some extent still - I was driven by a longing to be loved by all. I wanted to please and to be kind. I did not want to disappoint anyone. Part of it, I guess, was to not hurt others. But I think the main reason was (and is) an attempt to protect myself. Today I realize that I will never ever be loved by everyone. Even if I do not challenge a single person and live a small life, I will not be loved by all anyway. And if I want to make an impact and stand up for something, I will make enemies. Therefore I consciously choose to live a life that is so significant and meaningful that inevitably it will attract hate from some people.
Today's exercise
Establish a practice with someone close to you, your partner, a friend or a family member. Choose someone who you have trust in. Make an agreement that the first time you talk to each other at the beginning of a new month, answer the question "What am I afraid to tell you?"
