Presidio School Monthly Newsletter - September 2020
Message from the Principal - September 2020

HI Presidio Family,

I cannot believe that we are almost finished with the first quarter of this school year and almost in October! I have had the opportunity to speak with students, faculty, staff, and families about the current school year and have been overwhelmed with the positive responses. I feel fortunate to work in a place that I love, surrounded with positivity despite the current conditions. I also greatly appreciate the constructive feedback I have received because I believe that feedback can only help us grow and improve. Speaking of improvement, I am impressed with our students’ growth during the first quarter and would like to give a HUGE shout out to the #PresidioFamily for coming together to create a helpful, positive learning environment for our students. Whether students are participating in our distance learning model on site or in an off site location, they have gotten into a routine and are making great strides towards achievement. Thank you to our Response to Intervention team for setting up pull out services for students who are demonstrating challenges in one or more subject areas, to our faculty and staff for setting up tutoring/Academic Lab time to reteach lessons and provide additional assistance to those who need it, to our guardians for sitting with our students and helping them navigate the technical aspects of distance learning. Please remember when working with your children that it is ok, even beneficial, for them to struggle a bit with a concept. If you are concerned about the amount of time your child is spending on a concept, please reach out to his/her teacher. We are all together on this path and want to do our very best to teach perseverance, problem solving, grit, in addition to teaching the curriculum. Thank you all for your continued support of Presidio and active involvement in the #PresidioFamily!

Happy October!

New Website!!

Presidio is excited to announce the launch of our newly designed website! The Presidio leadership team has been working behind the scenes for months to put together a site that is faster, easier to navigate, and more user-friendly.

Our goal with this new website is to provide prospective parents, as well as current parents and students, a clear path to needed information. Amongst the new features is an integrated chat popup that gives visitors an in-person experience digitally!

We will be updating our content with helpful information, important school announcements as well as providing information relevant to parents and the community in the Presidio Blog. You can also sign up for our Presidio Monthly newsletter.

For any questions, suggestions, feedback or comments, please E-mail us.

We have noticed more and more students with late arrivals in the morning. Please be aware the gates close at 7:55 am, 8:00 am is when students should already be in their seats, logged on, and ready to begin class. Late arrivals cause disruptions for those who are ready to begin.

In addition, this is a friendly reminder that parents MUST wear masks AND walk their child(ren) to the gate before they leave in the morning. Parents should not leave before their child(ren) are checked in.

Thank you for doing your best to make sure our morning students drop offs run as smoothly as possible!

Free Meals for Presidio

Presidio is proud to announce that we received approval to begin serving free meals for ALL Presidio students, regardless of food application status and how the students are participating in the distance learning program. We are able to participate in this program due to our #PresidioFamily turning in food applications - thank you! Please continue handing in your food applications, even if you are declining the program because it will allow Presidio to continue to provide programs like this.

The free meal program will run through December 31, 2020. In an effort to be in compliance with the Arizona Department of Education, we must now offer meal pick in the morning from 6:30-7:20 AM, Monday-Friday.

Self-Paced Reading Intervention

Self-paced Reading Intervention uses weekly readings selected by grade and Lexile level to boost reading vocabulary and comprehension. It's a new program this year, designed to meet the remote learning situation by being online and keeping a flexible schedule. The class requires no extra instructional time, only that reading time be built into each week. Contact Ms. Levine at for details.

High school dance students are working on learning how to create and write choreography, and develop their own dances through the exploration of personal meaning. Dance students have learned fifty-five words of French dance terminology and in the next few weeks will discover new famous choreographers and how their styles changed the history of dance.

High school visual art - Raven Rose-Cowle demonstrated her exemplary drafting ability in this assignment assessing the students' ability to map dark colors and black as a way to identify structure, shape, size and proportion. Raven cleverly depicts the colorful lion here from the Canvas Art homepage!

Martial Arts - Kung Fu

The Blue Caterpillar class is excited to announce that one of our students, Aleena Conrad recently earned an award in Kung Fu from Sifu. This is a great achievement as awards aren't given out often! Aleena was recognized for her wonderful fighting stance and always doing her absolute best in Kung Fu. Way to go, Aleena!!
