Unity In The Spirit
25 October 2020
Unity is oneness (in Church, between friends & family, man & wife, with the Spirit of God; unity is not uniformity which seem to be a widely accepted definition of unity in Churches. Uniformity in Churches turns us into Spiritual clones and a lot of Churches are caught in this irrespective of our various levels of understanding, experience & relationship with God. It becomes rules based. That is not what Christ has called us to. It is worth noting that we are not called to division, disobedience or disregard for those in authority too.
Unity affords us individuality, Isa 1:18 – Come let us reason together… … & diversity 1Cor 12:6-11(NLT) “God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. Spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.
Eph 4:11-12(NLT) says “Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.”
The charge is for us all to come together with a single purpose of serving Christ and making heaven even with our differences. The bible says “if two of you shall agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my father in heaven.” Math 18:19. How much more when we all come together in alignment with the Holy Spirit.
If we all seek as a priority working for the unity of the Church in all we do, we will be unstoppable in reaching the world for God, like the Babylonians in Gen 11:1-9 and like the Apostles in Acts 2-manifesting the Glory of God.
It’s the season of “The Manifestation of Glory”, let’s unite to partake of God’s plan for the season. Moving in unity in line with God’s word is faith backed up by action, it is obedience. It brings the manifestation of Gods Power.
