EP Tourism Talk - August 2020

Hello all,

August already and this year is just “zooming” by!

By most accounts school holidays were extremely busy for the region (which is fabulous!) but acknowledge the challenges we face moving forward as we continue to maintain our share of the current intrastate travel opportunity. I encourage you to stay connected with myself as the Tourism Development Manager for the Eyre Peninsula, plus your local Council Tourism Officers in the coming months to ensure we are putting the most effective messaging out into the marketplace.

South Australian Regional Visitor Strategy (RVS)

Following the success of the South Australian Regional Visitor Strategy (RVS) 2020, we invite you to have your say on the development of the next iteration of that strategy, which will take our state’s regional tourism industry to 2025. The success of the RVS is because it is developed by the regions, for the regions. And that’s exactly why we need – and would value – your input.

Tourism is key to South Australia's regions with 44 cents in every visitor dollar being spent in regional South Australia. And it is likely it will only become more important, as the impacts of COVID-19 see an intrastate led recovery for the visitor economy. Your input into the priorities for growing tourism in your region are essential.

Feedback provided in this confidential survey will be collated and used to inform workshops held across all 11 regions. The workshops, with key tourism representatives, will discuss the themes identified in the survey to define the priories for the next RVS.

The survey should take an estimated 10 minutes, click to start the survey -  RVS Survey

Any questions, please email SATC and the survey closes at 5:00pm on Monday, 31 August 2020.

Marketing UPDATE

Mid-July saw the launch of the new SATC Phase 2 marketing campaign transitioning from the Welcome Back to A Great State To Be In for local intrastate market and You Have To See It To Believe It campaign.  Should you have any questions or suggestions/input from past campaigns please contact  SATC Marketing.

FOODLAND catalogues

Check out Foodland's12 week campaign across their catalogues, in-store promotional material and digital - starting July, with each week focusing on a different region, to encourage Foodland shoppers to go out and explore this great state of ours.

Foodland catalogues are distributed to 500,000 homes each week and receive over 20,000 views online each week also. In addition to this, they have 20,000+ Facebook followers and over 60,000+ views on their website each month.

End of July was Eyre Peninsula's week to shine!

South Aussie with Cosi

Late July Andrew “Cosi” Costello was in the region filming a couple of episodes featuring the Eyre Peninsula.  Two episodes have aired and the remaining later in the year.

NEW Eyre Peninsula website

The end of July saw the soft launch of the brand new eyrepeninsula.com website.  Together with the Councils across the Eyre Peninsula through the Tourism Advisory Committee and Regional Development Australia – Eyre Peninsula procured JABA, to design and develop a new tourism website.  This website is using the latest best practices and developed a hybrid “website” and “app” using Progressive Web App (PWA) technology. UBER, Twitter, Trivago, Pintrest, NASA and Starbucks use this PWA technology! This provides a fully functional mobile responsive website that works on all devices which means it’s quick and can also be “added to homescreen” on mobile devices to install the full app version without the need to go through an app store.   We know from recent research that key trends the increasing sophistication of mobile technology will help fuel tourism which the Eyre Peninsula is now well placed.

If you want your event, café, accommodation listed on the new website you need to have a ATDW listing.   Remember it’s FREE to have an ATDW listing and it’s the one place you NEED to be on to be seen.  Check out SATC website for further information on ATDW.

If you have any suggestions, queries of questions regarding the website please don’t hesitate to contact me.  The project mission is to provide a source of travel inspiration, information and a responsibility to Tourism Operators to present businesses in the best possible light.

To boost the awareness and leverage the new website a Digital Marketing (SEM) campaign has been developed and launched.

Caravan and Camping Industries Association of SA (CCIASA)

Check out the new Road Trip Ready 2020 publication which is a caravan and camping self-drive guide to South Australia – check out the EP pages!  It’s available online or to access your free copy via CCIASA members.

I had the opportunity to promote the Eyre Peninsula via Facebook Live with the Let's Go Caravan and Camping Week with my colleague Caroline from Destination Riverland promoting her neck of the woods.

Australia Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW) – EOFY analytics from southaustralia.com

SATC have put together a presentation of the key top-line figures from 19/20 EOFY analytics results from southaustralia.com. This shows the importance of having your listing on the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW) if you don't have a FREE listing you will not be promoted by SATC!
