“When we make it a practice to connect with our needs, we shift into learning mode.”
Ike Lasater
Reflection
If I am not in touch with life within me, I may be preoccupied with judging others, defending myself, insisting on my views, or apologizing. If I believe in any of these approaches, I will most certainly repeat my behaviour. If I instead get in touch with my needs, I can learn something about myself. I can notice that behind my thoughts about myself and others are needs. And I can follow my needs instead of my thoughts when I take action.
Today's exercise
Think of a situation where you said or did something you regret. You did this to try to meet your needs. What needs did you try to meet? Once you have identified the needs, think of three other strategies you could take to meet those needs.
