We are run almost entirely by volunteers, on bar, box office, and stewarding, so there is a real sense of community ownership, and a friendly warmth to Ropetackle. We’re a small and intimate space, which helps break barriers between artist and audience and generate a stronger connection for everyone in the room. I think these elements make Ropetackle special.

I played in several bands when I was younger, and formed a live music society while at university, which led me down this path. Ropetackle was my first proper job. I saw an internship opportunity at the Job Centre and applied there and then! I got the position, and it turned into a full-time job. I am forever grateful for that opportunity, because it changed my life.

Everyone plays an essential role at Ropetackle, from the staff to the freelancers to the volunteers. I must, however, give a special mention to Trustee and Artistic Director Anne Hodgson. She has been instrumental in developing Ropetackle into the venue it is today, and her strength, support, guidance and wisdom has led us through thick and thin.

We’ve built a good relationship with Midnight Mango. We trust the quality of their artists and often take a chance on shows because of this. They have a diverse mix of artists, which is great as we are always looking to vary our programme. The booking agents are nice and easy to work with. We especially appreciated their help and flexibility during the pandemic.
