More than 830 Swindon households have already registered an interest in the latest round of Solar Together, which offers residents a hassle-free way to begin powering their home through renewable energy.
This is the third year running that Swindon Borough Council is working in partnership with Wiltshire Council and independent experts iChoosr, to offer the Solar Together scheme.
Registrations for this year’s scheme launched exactly a month ago and will see residents coming together as a group to benefit from more competitive pricing than individual homeowners might get if entering the market alone.
Since the window opened for registrations on 17 June, 837 Swindon households have registered for solar panels with many also expressing an interest in a battery to store unused energy that can be then used whenever it is needed. The deadline for registrations is Friday, 9 August.
The previous 2022 and 2023 Solar Together schemes saw over 430 Swindon households access quality solar panels and battery storage installations at a competitive price.
Councillor Emma Bushell, Swindon Borough Council's Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Organisational Oversight said: “Getting solar panels can be quite a daunting process, but with Solar Together you can be reassured that you're getting a high-quality product and service, and thanks to the power of the group, a competitive price too.
“It’s great to see that over 830 Swindon households have registered so far. The deadline is 9 August and it takes five minutes to register online and there’s no obligation to continue. You can also find an extensive information on the Solar Together website to help decide if solar panels could be right for you.”
The scheme has been popular and well received by residents with many leaving their feedback on how it was for them. Swindon resident, Clare-Marie, had 14 solar panels, battery storage and an EV charging point installed with Solar Together in October 2022. She said: “It’s the best thing I’ve done. When I see that I’ve only used 40 pence worth of energy a day, it gives such a boost to my wellbeing.
“They made the process and the fitting as easy, and as seamless as possible. Even fitting my battery in my garage so there was complete and easy access.
“The fact that Swindon Borough Council is backing this gave me complete peace of mind, knowing for sure that reputable people would be coming in to install my solar panels.”
