Data is reported by Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) week. The MMWR week is the week of the epidemiologic year for which the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS) disease report is assigned by the reporting local or state health department for the purposes of MMWR disease incidence reporting and publishing.
Influenza like illness (ILI) is reported as a fever and cough or sore throat. These cases are not laboratory confirmed and are only meant to give an overview of respiratory illness burden, not only influenza positive cases within the United States. New hospital admissions are patients admitted to an inpatient bed on the previous calendar day and had a positive influenza test at admission or during the 14 days prior.
Please see the Additional Information on Data Sources for a more detailed summary of the data and the sources. Current and historic influenza reports are linked on the USET website here under the Influenza tab.
As always, if you would like a report that tracks different statistics, or if you have questions regarding this report, please do not hesitate to contact Anna Garrett at agarrett@usetinc.org to discuss your needs.
