This full-day workshop will focus on Rudolf Laban’s concepts of space and shape, and how to use the 3 planes in our therapeutic analysis and interventions.
After thoroughly exploring the planes and their meanings through experiential and didactic material, we will focus on various applications for our sessions when moving with groups and individuals.
The workshop is suitable for Dance Movement Therapists, both experienced and in-training, as well as Somatic and Movement-based therapists.
We will be covering the Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) material, specifically, familiarizing ourselves with the kinesphere and exploring the meaning and function of the three planes.
We will delve into the therapeutic benefits of spatial awareness, to understand how mapping out the kinesphere creates a deeper sense of place, both in our own bodies and those of our clients. Defining the space around our bodies creates a larger movement vocabulary, more neuronal pathways, and increases coping skills.
And, we will spend time with exercises, applying the concepts of these planes therapeutically, and using interventions applicable to both groups and individual clients.
