2020: A Record Summer for Swantown

Summer 2020 was unlike any summer in the past. After months of being cooped up, people looked forward to boating season and some even decided to give it a try for the first time. Many people relied on boating as a source of recreation to enjoy safely with their families and friends. The overall increase in boating resulted in a record summer for Swantown Marina & Boatworks. The Fuel Dock surpassed sales records, Boatworks saw more haulouts, and the Marina welcomed a record amount of guests.

  • The Fuel Dock hit an all-time record of 27,710 gallons sold in July and then eclipsed July's record in August selling a total of 31,690 gallons of fuel.
  • Boatworks had a total of 87 haulouts in July and 61 haulouts in August, the most haul outs for each of the months in the last 10 years.
  • Marina Guest Nights totaled 598 in July, 596 in August, and 475 in September. We are happy to have hosted many guests during the summer months.
Destination Waterfront

The Port of Olympia's Destination Waterfront Development Planning effort has begun.

In 2019, the Port Commission accepted the Port Vision 2050 plan. Port Vision 2050 was an 18-month process that sought input on goals for Port activities through 2050 from key stakeholders and the community at large. One of the key community goals that emerged from this effort was to “Turn the Port Peninsula into a premier destination by adding attractions, increasing accessibility, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.”

The Port recognizes that the Port Peninsula can be transformed into a revenue-generating, environmentally sustainable, community asset with the proper planning and vision in place.

The Port has contracted with an award-winning team to ensure we have the process and resources we’ll need to succeed. Thomas Architecture Studio, SCJ Alliance, and SiteWorks have an impressive track record when it comes to organizing and executing initiatives of this magnitude, and an unparalleled understanding of the people and values of Thurston County.

There will be upcoming opportunities for public input throughout the next several months. Stay tuned and if you'd like to stay up-to-date on these opportunities, follow the Port on social media or sign up to receive email notices here

Port of Olympia's 98th Anniversary

On November 7, the Port of Olympia will celebrate its 98th Anniversary. In 1922, the citizens of Thurston County voted to establish the publicly-owned Port of Olympia, recognizing the benefits of a Port for the local economy.
