Sometimes I don’t see it – or, maybe I just don’t want
to see it. In either case, a proverbial elephant in the room has appeared.
Team members see it however. And they wonder if their leader is going to do anything about it.
Can you think of a time when you’ve seen a leader who avoided or failed to acknowledge a significant elephant that was threatening the success of the mission? That quickly erodes confidence in that leader.
Our teams are adept at spotting danger; risks that threaten the success of the mission, and the team’s well-being.
As a business leader, I encourage you to spot and face the elephants head on. Don’t avoid it, or hope it just goes away.
Leaders must face the issue head on and address it to maintain respect and trust from the team.
It takes courage to face a large elephant head on. Especially when we feel like we don't have good solutions of know how to address it.
