"Doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment." – Oprah Winfrey
These days, every time I talk about productivity I feel like the boogeyman. Talking about being productive? In WINTER?! During an unprecedented global panini?!? (Yes, I used this joke on Instagram last week. No, it does not get old for me 😂)
Listen, I get it. We need a lot of rest. Getting through the day is harder than it ever has been before. Naps are in order, breaks are essential, playing hooky is encouraged. I deeply believe that we are not robots, remember?
And yet. I actually think we do ourselves a massive disservice when we completely give up on finding strategies that will help us stay focused and on task. When we throw in the towel and accept "our fate" of scrolling on Instagram for 5+ hours per day, getting pinged by notifications & interruptions nonstop.
Prioritizing rest & play is one thing. Giving in to habits we know don't make us feel good and aren't healthy long-term is another thing entirely. To me, that sounds suspiciously more like self-indulgence than self-care.
For me, finding my own ways to stay focused IS a form of self-care, in the truest sense of the word. Giving myself structure and a bit of discipline means that I have a lot more space for other, non-work things. IfI don't drag out my work day by frittering away time, I get to have longer, calmer evenings to myself.
Unless we have the privilege of not having to work for money, getting work done is an important (if sometimes annoying) necessity. And as far as I'm concerned, it's far better to get things done efficiently and with focus rather than wasting our days & feeling scattered the whole time. It's not going to be possible every single day (again: we're not robots), but I believe it's always worth it to try.
So in this week's #AskSteph video, I'm sharing my top five, slightly quirky ways to stay focused & productive on my work when I need to get things done. They're a little weird, but they really do work!
And if you have little tricks that are helping your work days feel more fun, focused, light, or yes, productive 😂, I'd love to hear about them! Feel free to hit that reply button and drop me a line. ❤️
With love & gratitude,

I am really looking forward to learning from a woman who has become successful in a male-dominated industry, and now helps women and marginalized people grow and thrive in business without requiring access to capital & connections. 🙌

The one good thing about winter in a pandemic is that I have more time to play board & card games. 🤓 Dutch Blitz is a fun new discovery in my family, and my partner and I have been playing it non-stop since we learned how. So fun & so fast-paced! What games have you been loving lately?
