One of the most powerful techniques in design is using empty space (also known as white space) more strategically. Either using more of it, or using it more consistently will instantly help your design become a better experience for the user.
- Micro empty spaces (the small gaps between and around UI elements) have a big impact on individual legibility. Some call this allowing the elements to 'breathe'.
- When micro spaces are more generous, the brain is quicker to make sense of elements, allowing for easier legibility.
- Macro spaces (the larger gaps around your whole layout) make it easier to understand the grouping of elements.
- Making macro space more obvious and defined helps users make sense of your whole page, focus, and find what they need easier.
