Hi, gorgeous,

I hope you are doing well this week! I know a lot of people are really feeling the harshness (and length) of winter right now. I'm back in NYC where it is 17 degrees and am really feeling that cold. I hope you are doing whatever you can to keep yourself cozy. Know this: it will pass! My advisor and friend Roberta just planted her seedlings, which makes me so happy. Spring will come. đźŚ±đźŚ±

For those of us who follow the cosmos, we also know that Mercury is in retrograde, which means know we get to blame all of our communication and technology issues on the planets. Ha! I joke, but also not. Anyways, hold tight! It's a tough time for all, but we will get through it together.

Okay, here are your five things for the week. âŹ¬

    1. digitally detoxing our homes, meditation for people who hate meditating

I went on the Mindful Medicine show on RadioMD to talk about how and why to digitally detox our homes. (Listen here.)

I wrote about "meditation for people who hate meditating" for Hers Magazine. (Read a digital version here.)

For my fellow empty nesters, I wrote about 7 ways to deal with the feels, for YourTeen Magazine. (Read the article here.)

My book was mentioned by Lodro Rinzler as an affordable way to start meditating on the HerMoney website. (Read the whole piece here–great suggestions!)

    2. articles worth reading

Over-the-counter painkillers reduce emotional pain, too. (!) This is something that holistic practitioners have known for a while, and mainstream science is catching up to. But I love that The Guardian is asking: should you take a pill for that?

I relate to this article so much and honestly the headline sums it up so well: City noise supercharged my anxiety. It was nature sounds that saved me

Toddler selfies! They are really just high-tech takes on kids learning about themselves by playing with mirrors.

    3. which teachers do you love?

Do you have specific meditation teachers whom you love? Or people who teach about mindfulness, wellness, self-love, self-care, or related topics?

If so, I would love to hear who they are! We are looking to feature some guest teachers at EFF THIS! Meditation, and I would love to hear who you are into.

    4. allowing sweetness

We don't have to replace bad things with good things, we don't need to take heaviness and turn it into lightness. We can just let things be what they are–meeting reality as it truly is.

But when we're feeling low, or sad, or stuck in thought cycles, we can chose to add sweetness to what we are noticing. Try this:

    • The next time you find yourself caught in difficult emotions, take a deep breath and say to yourself "I am feeling (emotion). And .... "
    • Now allow a tiny bit of sweetness to arise to the surface as well. Not replacing, but adding to the present moment. Maybe it is the tiniest thing: "...and this orange tastes delicious." or "...and my co-worker made me laugh today." or "...and I love the way this sweater feels."
    • Repeat it several times; how you are feeling and the sweetness you notice. Let the two things be true at the same time. Neither one makes the other less true. They both are. Life is rich.

    5. plus one friend I want to make

Here are some cool things people I know are doing:

Sending you peace and love and strength. Hoping you are able to find some moments of sweetness. And if all else fails, don't forget that pictures of dogs are awesome. See you next week, friend.
