Instead of focusing on trophies and talent, we build kind and confident people using dance as the vehicle.
There’s a certain magic that happens.
When you dance for the pure joy of it. Not for competition or other people’s validation.
When you connect with your body and learn to love it for all the wonderful things it can do.
When you’re supported to learn proper technique without the pressure to be perfect.
When you’re surrounded by people who make you feel seen, valued and celebrated for exactly who you are.
At Dance Habit, there’s a place at the barre and on the stage for everyone.
No judgement. No competitions. No unsafe moves. Just a warm and welcoming studio that uses dance to help you move, feel and belong.
Sadly (and proudly), we are not the norm.
We are extremely happy to have achieved this and the reality is we work really hard both in the studio and in the background to make it happen. From recruiting, to revision of policy or social media presence, we go to great lengths to make sure all factors align with our values (or that we are travelling in that direction where we find obstacles outside of our control).
Dance teaching remains an unregulated industry and, historically, this has caused a lot of problems, from putting untrained people in front of a class to teach it, to underpaying professionals or putting children at risk. These issues remain very relevant these days. It's easier to stumble upon a studio that presents this picture than one that doesn't. Fighting for our industry is hard and it comes with many challenges, but we firmly believe it's the only way forward. For years, we have been working to create secure and stable jobs for our staff, building the way to progressively bring them on board as employees and move away from the contractor model that generally leaves professionals unprotected in case of sickness, without an income during holidays, and in worst cases (most of them illegal), without superannuation.
As a dance studio, looking after our staff means they are happy to be here, they feel valued and seen, and motivated to deliver high-quality classes. You, as part of our community, are actively participating in very significant and positive change in the field of dance education.
