Tropical Nights is almost an ode to my childhood.
My grandmother had a small palm tree ever since she moved to Canada in the 1970s, and my family kept it alive for close to 50 years before it got too root-bound.
In the house where I lived from 2-6 years old, we had a huge hibiscus tree (maybe... I was a toddler after all, so everything was big to me at the time) and its presence brightened mornings in the kitchen. I loved that tree and the flowers that seemed to bloom indoors all year long; it was magical at the time.
And around the time that I graduated high school, I bought the summer dress shown here which was made from a tropical-print, bias-cut crepe fabric that hugged my curves just beautifully. I kept the dress for a long time (see it in this video, the bias draping lends itself to accentuating a corseted figure perfectly).
So when I saw a similar fabric that was more suitable for corsets, I just had to grab it. Palm trees and hibiscus blossoms are such a classic combination (actual palm flowers are... pretty ugly).
Special thanks to my mom and grandmother for instilling in me a love of greenery 🌴💚
Because of the tropical theme, I nominated this fabric to be made in a Novice (Lite) corset so it can be enjoyed in the summer season and in hot climates. I don't carry the Novice, but the Tropical Nights Cotton is now available for Special Orders !
