""So again Jesus said to them, 'Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and bandits; but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.'"

Message from Fr. Mike for Sunday, April 30 |
|
|
|
To the parishioners of St. Philip Neri Parish, sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints –
"Grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ”.
PSALM 23: Reupholstered for a Dilapidated World
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
As I lie down on Saskatoon’s concrete,
The smell of green, buried farmland rises up (from the University barns);
At the public fountain where I bathe with pigeons
He refreshes some fragments of my soul.
Along sidewalks, thick with people, he leads me,
Even though I push my soul-found belongings through metaphors (of community)
Of a different age, I still get the poetry:
His rod and his staff – things I’ve only seen as a kid on TV -
They strangely comfort me.
A meal is prepared for me by volunteers.
My head, oiled by unwashed hair,
Overflows with ideas ---
I got a lot of time to think.
Surely goodness and mercy follow me,
I just hope they catch up soon and more often.
Still, I’m sure I dwell in the house of the Lord,
Because sometimes I manage to feel myself “at home”.
Let us pray: “Almighty ever-living God, lead us to share in the joys of heaven, so that we, your humble flock, may reach where the brave Shepherd has gone before. Who lives and reigns in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen
May Jesus, the Good Shepherd, open the gates of our hearts, so that we may find rest and protection – even in our dilapidated world.
Praise be Jesus Christ … and Mary Immaculate
St. Philip Neri … pray for us
St. Eugene de Mazenod … pray for us
St. Kateri Tekakwitha … pray for us
God is good … all the time.
Fr. Mike Dechant OMI

A Prayer for Ukraine
God of peace and justice, we pray for the people of Ukraine today. We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your spirit of comfort would draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions. Above all, we pray for all your precious children at risk and in fear that you would hold and protect them. We pray in the name of Jesus the Prince of Peace. Amen.

Hi, Everyone!
The late snow is now all gone (again!) and the street sweepers are now out and about to get on with their spring cleaning. I think we can finally assume that, as we are knocking on May's door, Spring is a true reality and that before we know it, we will be complaining about the heat! Ah ... so is life in Saskatchewan! It will be fun to watch the lawns slowly turn greener, the trees bud/leaf out, and our persistent perennials continue to push through the soil and reach for the warm sun! I am also really enjoying listening to the spring birds singing away in the morning - so delightful! Our farmer friends too will be itching to get out on the land and launch into spring seeding - may they be blessed with "just the right amount" of moisuture, now and in the months ahead.
Where DID April go? Let's see what's coming up in our Parish and around our Diocese as we head into the month of May:
- This Wednesday, May 3 is the Feast of St. Philip the Apostle. You are invited to join the St. Philip School community for Mass here in the church at 9 am. A few more details are directly below.
- You know it's Spring when the Refugee Committee is advertising their Annual Tomato/Plant Sale! All the details are directly below - be sure to order early if you want to secure your favourites!
- As you do your Spring cleaning, please check the list below for some furniture items that our Refugee Committe is looking for as they relocate our refugee family. You just might have what they are looking for! Please see that list below.

That's it for this week! Enjoy the consistent, amazing double-digit Spring temperatures, (25C on Thursday?!) as you prepare that dry lawn for its first drink of water, and plan out your garden plot and flower beds. Be sure to cheer on our Saskatoon Blades as they move on to the next round of playoffs after an exciting Game 7 victory against Red Deer, as well as the Edmonton OIlers and Toronto Maple Leafs who are looking good in their playoff series. Even our Toronto Blue Jays are on a roll! And pretty soon we will be able to check out our new SK Roughrider roster for the upcoming CFL season! I can't wait for that!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone, enjoy the first week of May and talk to you next week!
May Blessings,
Marlene
