FROM THE RECIPE BOX
One of the things that I like best about fall are all the great types of apples that are available. My mom makes these fried apple pies, and they are great for breakfast or dessert.
Fried Apple Pies
1 can refrigerated biscuit dough
1 can of canned apples or apple pie filling
Your favorite kind of cooking oil
Cinnamon, powdered sugar, and honey, optional
Roll out each one of the biscuits until they are flat and a few inches wide. Spoon some apples into the center of the dough, then fold the dough over, forming a half moon-shaped pie. Crimp the edges together with a fork.
Meanwhile, heat the oil in a pan. Fry the pie until it is golden brown on both sides. Remove the pie from the heat, and place on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
Place the pie on a plate, and sprinkle with cinnamon and powdered sugar, and drizzle with honey, if desired. Serve immediately.
Note: You can use any kind of fruit/pie filling that you like in this recipe. Cherry and peach work well. Also, for more of a dessert, serve the pie hot with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.
Note: For an extra bit of sweetness and taste of fall, you could sprinkle some dried cranberries on top of the fried pies.
