Closing time 🇬🇧 Houseplant shop Elliott's Plants in Penrith, Cumbria is closing and its last day is tomorrow (September 2). Owner Elliott says the move is due to the difficult high street environment.
Snobs out I wrote an opinion piece for the I paper about snobbishness towards houseplant growers in the world of horticulture - an idea that spring from this edition of the newsletter. I'd love to know your thoughts on this issue!
Pathos logical Are you charmed or horrified when people call an Epipremnum aureum a 'pathos' (as happens in this recent article in British newspaper The Express)? I used to get tied up in knots when this happened, but I having written a whole chapter on this species, I've mellowed. I mean, once you get beyond realising that pathos is only slightly less accurate than pothos (Epipremnum is not in the genus Pothos, although both genera are in the aroid family), then anything goes. And let's face it, many specimens of this plant do evoke pity or sadness - especially the really spindly ones in the corner of the barber's.
