Legacy contaminated sediment in Budd Inlet is impacting the health of Puget Sound, marine operations, and recreational boating. The cleanup and restoration of the inlet is an opportunity to enhance the environment, strengthen the economy, and support our community. That’s why this work is a top priority for the Port of Olympia, and we’re not alone. Other local, state and federal agencies and Tribal governments are also interested in shaping the future of Budd Inlet.
The Port is in the early stages of exploring how best to clean up and restore Budd Inlet and will be discussing plans in greater detail during the Port Commission's work session on Monday, September 19 at 2:30 pm. We encourage you to learn more by:
- Watching the meeting either in real time or after the meeting. The link and dial-in numbers are provided below. You can also attend the meeting in person in the Commission Meeting Room at 606 Columbia St NW, Suite 1-B, Olympia, WA 98501, however, due to limited space, watching virtually is encouraged.
- Reviewing meeting materials – posted here by the end of the day Thursday, September 15.
- Receiving regular updates regarding Budd Inlet Cleanup and Restoration, sign up here.
Please note that because this is a work session, the Commission will not be taking public comments at the meeting. Written comments can be provided through the public comment form.
We are just starting this important discussion with the community and with project partners and want to make sure you are involved. More information about the project will be provided in the coming weeks and months. If you have questions or would like to schedule a presentation, please send an email to inquiries@portolympia.com.
Thank you!
