Maybe Some Context Would Help?
One of the reward tiers for the Return to Limbo City audiobooks Kickstarter is a custom Lana Harvey short story. A backer wanted some payba--I mean, to pay homage to one of her lovers past.
I suggested we have him trip over a tennis ball on a little old lady's walker, resulting in him faceplanting in a crosswalk...just as an old man in a muscle car is driving by, making eyes at our unwitting accomplice. The anonymous backer (see, your secrets are safe with me) was having trouble visualizing this scenario, so art degree to the rescue!Â
Okay, I'll admit not all of my art is of the stick figure variety. And I will toot my horn and say that I'm fairly decent at digital design. I'm longtime BFFs with Photoshop (like 20+ years). Still, I hire out most of my cover designs because there are some incredible artists out there, and because I already have 623 different hats I have to wear on any given day. But every now and then, I find my way back to that sandbox. Like now, with the Kickstarter short story collection cover. Exhibit B:
