As a very much newbie birder, I always enjoy reading about those who really know their stuff. Intern Martha captured a goodie here for our News blog in Keith Russell, Audubon's Mid Atlantic Program Manager. "Birds innately give pleasure," says Keith. So true!
Driving to Tallahassee last week, I noted a whole gang of people with binoculars and impressive cameras standing on one of the bike trail bridges along a neighborhood marsh. I texted Bruce, the birding friend who finally broke through my consciousness and made me become that newbie birder. "What's the scuttlebutt on the marsh just before you get to Las Palmas [Mexican restaurant]? Lots of big lenses out there this morning."
A male vermillion flycatcher had been spotted the day before and word spread. "I love birders," I said to myself. Well, ok, I said it out loud but never mind.
