Left: Before - Property with significant erosion and eroding shoreline. Right: After - Subsurface drainage system and erosion blankets stabilize the shoreline.
Significant efforts are underway to stabilize shorelines where erosion, seawall seepage, and bare sand/soil erosion is occurring. You can see a map of erosion projects and check on their status here.
Erosion project work as of February 25, 2021:
Sanford Lake
- 13 properties - shoreline stabilization construction work finished
- 10 properties - shoreline stabilization project in progress
- 10 condo residences - shoreline stabilization project on-deck
Wixom Lake
- 10 properties - shoreline stabilization work finished
- 23 properties - reconstruction of causeway serving the properties finished
- 11 properties - shoreline stabilization project in progress
- 1 residence - shoreline stabilization project on-deck
In 2021 we will conduct about $37 million worth of work to stabilize properties, remove debris, stop erosion and make the dams safe. These efforts will lower risk and prepare us for our future with full lakes and operational dams. Erosion work is funded in part by a grant from the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
