Welcome to my latest newsletter: I really hope it finds you well and enjoying the start of 2023. 

I've got a bit of a head for photography! When I'm out walking, or even when I look around me in the house, I tend to see things in photographs, composing scenes and shots in my head even when I don't have a camera to hand. And it'll often be more than just snapping images; it will be how different shots might relate together to build a bigger picture. 

What, in fact, I always aspire to is telling stories. That's why so much of my work tends to be built around longer term projects; these allow a complex and nuanced narrative to develop around and through the images.

The other aspect of heads of course is other peoples, and their faces! Portraits, in fact. People photography is extremely rewarding and I love doing it. So in this newsletter, I'm highlighting my headshot photography for those who might need their professional images refreshed for the new year. Are you aware of a small businesses, or any self-employed people, in need of new headshots for 2023? If so, I’d love to spend a friendly, relaxed hour with them, encouraging them to achieve 2 or 3 different looks, and then providing them with a selection of finished high-res images they can use freely, on their website, on all their socials, and maybe also to send to their Mum!

This third issue of NotQuiteFree Press, entitled Rivers Have Rights, contains a set of photos made in April 2022 at an event held in Norwich to declare and protect the rights of the River Wensum, and the habitats and wildlife it supports, from development for Norfolk County Council's planned Norwich Western Link road.

I began this project towards the end of last year and have been making regular trips to Walsingham since to continue building a portfolio of images. As a place, Walsingham has a unique presence which is evidenced in its history, its buildings and lanes, its people, and its location. It inspires me as a photographer and as a Christian, and I'm keen to see where the project takes me over the coming months. Here are a few of my recent images and if anyone has any insight into Walsingham, its life and the stories that photographs of it might be able to tell, please do get in touch with me.
