Hi friend,
We’re so happy you’re committing to the Fall CleanUp challenge and learning more about your land every day.
By showing up, you’re doing so much to support pollinators, wildlife, native plants, the watershed, the ecosystem, the planet, and yourself - all with a simple, grounded practice and a gentle touch. That’s EarthCare, friend!
Challenge #2: Join the World on CleanUp Day to pick up trash (non-organic debris) on a Land Walk
What is a land walk?
This is a practice we recommend at least once a season during the transition of solstice or equinox, where you actively walk your entire property to see what’s present in the landscape. Those are the most dynamic times to notice what’s changing, how wildlife is moving and getting ready for the next season, and so on.
Check out the 3-part Mini Course on Land Walking we created to share this amazing practice with anyone, anywhere, urban, suburban, rural or moonwalking! Ha… maybe that’s a bit far out.
When Kendra offers land walks as a consultation service, her process goes a lot deeper and involves:
Noticing special plants, areas of concern or interest, making notes in a Nature Journal.
Identifying plants and learning whether they’re native, edible, poisonous.
Observing sunlight patterns, soil conditions, moisture presence in various patches.
Looking for signs of wildlife and habitat that might already exist.
Listening to the land itself, to learn more about its wants, needs, limits, provisions.
For this land walk challenge, we’re keeping it simple and inviting you to practice observing while cleaning up any trash you see.
Trash and litter contain all kinds of chemicals that are toxic to the environment. Trash can be dangerous or confusing for wildlife. Contaminants from plastic waste and litter end up in our waterways, food chain, and the air we breathe. We know we’re all on the same page when it comes to reducing toxic chemicals in the environment!
Take a close look at your landscape and clean up any non-organic debris that may have floated its way in. Picking up trash is an act of care and service that truly makes a difference.
Is your landscape litter-free? We challenge you to expand your circle - even just a little bit - and see if you can find any other areas that need some love. We are all in this together, and every little bit matters. ♡
