SSEN office open hours

A reminder that the South Shore English Network open hours are 8.30am - 4.30pm on Monday - Friday.

Our office is located at 1190B rue de Courchevel, St Romuald, G6W 0M6. When you are in the building, take the elevator to the 4th floor.

Due to the current government measures in place regarding Covid-19, we are working from home until further notice. As such, please email or phone in advance to make an appointment if you need to come to the office.

Early Childhood school readiness kit bags

Last year we delivered 100 Early Childhood school readiness kit bags to St Vincent Elementary School to be given out to Kindergarten 4 and 5 students.

Compiled with the help of other English-speaking community organisations, occupational therapists and teachers, the bags contain all sorts of resources and tools to help make the transition to kindergarten a little easier.

Thanks to Naître et grandir, Literacy Quebec, Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS) and Dairy Farmers of Canada for providing pamphlets.

Follow up on the Community Christmas Hamper Campaign

The latest tally in January of the money donated to the Community Christmas Hamper Campaign 2020 is $45,773. Wow! Thank you so much to all the donors thus far!

The figure is so close to the $50,000 objective. If you can, it's not too late to donate.

Letters of happiness project

Thank you to Charles-Rodrigue, Des Pixels, Saint-Joseph and Auberivière schools as well as to the many families in Lévis who participated in the "Letters of happiness, make the difference for a senior in Lévis" project!

Just before Christmas, the Maison de la Famille Rive-Sud contacted SSEN about some really lovely cards written in English which we distributed to English-speaking seniors in Lévis.

Youth Pulse Check Survey

Are you an English-speaking young adult between 18 - 29 living in Quebec?

Take the Youth Pulse Check Survey and help CHSSN gain insights to improve access to mental health services in Quebec.

For every submission, CHSSN will donate $1 to the Kids Help Phone, up to $500.

What's happening this month?!

Unfortunately, the current health measures and guidelines mean that our activities will need to be online or outdoors for the foreseeable future until we receive new information.

We will add new activities to the calendar as and when. Please keep an eye on the Events section on our Facebook page and on our website to see all of the most up to date activities.

Due to the online nature of activities, we will also be sharing on our Facebook page any online activities offered by other English-speaking community organisations across the province. Feel free to take advantage of any online sessions held by other organisations if they interest you.

Thursdays Jan 13 - Feb 17 | 6.30 - 8.30pm

The Poetry Factory

Lévis resident and poet, Frank Beltrano will be running a series of 6 virtual poetry writing workshops in English on Zoom.

These sessions will be offered completely free!

Each week you will receive a prompt to take away and write a poem based on this prompt. You will send your poem to your word friend and Frank who will both write a commentary. During the sessions, you read your piece and receive the two commentaries and engage with the discussions which follow. By the end of the 6 weeks, you will be amazed at how much your confidence and the range and quality of your writing will have improved!
