Belmont Primary School

Principal’s Comments:

Dear Parents and Friends of the School,

Thank you all for your continued support over the first term. We have just had a successful Shore to Shore run where we had around 150 participants running from TGS to Milford Reserve. I loved some of the costumes the children wore. Thank you to Mr Thorne for organising sausages for everyone at the finish line, they were greatly appreciated.

Thanks to parents who have started managing and coaching sports teams, it will get busier when Term 2 starts.

Next term we welcome Jill Raines back to our teaching staff. She will teach our New Entrant class in Room 8. Today we farewelled Regina Adams and thanked her for all her time as a Teacher Aide, Waterwise co-ordinator, member and Chair of the PTA. Regina and her husband Daniel have contributed significantly with time, energy and passion over the last 7 years, for which we are very grateful.

ANZAC Day is Thursday 25 April, the last Thursday of the holidays. If you and your child would like to march in this year's Devonport Parade, you are all welcome. Please meet in the New World carpark at 10.30am. The march then proceeds to the cenotaph at the library at 10.45am, for a 11am service. We ask the children to wear their school uniform, please. Cassandra Thorne and Jasper Brant will lead the procession and the children participating will follow them. Cassandra and Jasper will lay the wreath on behalf of the school.

On Friday 31 May the Peninsula Schools will have a joint teacher-only day. Our school will therefore be closed on Friday 31 May and Monday 3 June for the King’s Birthday long weekend.

I look forward to seeing you at the assembly tomorrow and enjoying Room 12's item.

Finally, I want to wish you all a good and safe break from school and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday 29 April when Term 2 starts.

Board Comments:

Dear BPS community,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the PTA I would like to thank you all for your support of the recent BPS School Fair. While the Fair was successful in raising much needed funds for the school, it was more pleasing to see so many parents helping and supporting by providing their time. A huge thank you to Georgina and the PTA for their organisation of the Fair and to Jake and the dads for the Battle of the Schools. Thanks also to Chris Batchelor and Bayleys for their support.

Through the BPS community’s generosity, the Board has been able to undertake a number of projects over the last couple of years, including the refurbishment of rooms 13-15, shade sails in the quad, the stone wall entrance on the lower court, a marimba and choir rises to name a few. Another big thanks goes to Ben and Aimee Price for their support of the refurbishment.

The Board is committed to providing the best possible educational outcomes and opportunities for our children however we need your continued support through volunteering or even paying your school donations where you’re able to. The biggest impact the Board has made in our children’s educational outcomes is investing in our amazing teacher aides. This enables the children to have more individual care and focus from their teacher and teacher aide.

Over the years, a number of parents whose youngest child is leaving the school have given a donation towards a legacy project such as a bench, a tree or some other equipment that helps the remaining students. For those parents leaving BPS this year, I would encourage you to contribute to this initiative as a way of paying it forward and to thank BPS for the amazing job it has done in educating your children. If you’re interested, please talk to Bruce or myself. I wish everyone a safe and happy school holidays and look forward to the rest of the year.
